Start of doctorate before May 2012

Please read the doctoral regulations carefully first


Please note that a doctoral degree under the Doctoral Regulations as of January 12, 2010, is only available to doctoral candidates who have availed themselves of the transitional provision and submitted a corresponding supervision certificate (transitional provision) to the faculty by December 31, 2012. If you did not submit this by the deadline, you will pursue your doctorate under the 2016 doctoral regulations (for the procedure, see the separate page “Start of Doctoral Studies from June 2012”)!

1. Enrollment

In accordance with § 9 (2), sentence 3 of the NHG, doctoral candidates must register as doctoral students. Registration takes place at the Student Center (Student Office).

At the start of a doctoral program, the primary supervisor must, in accordance with § 5 (3) sentence 2 of the faculty’s doctoral regulations mentioned above, submit a proposal for the work to be completed by their doctoral candidate as part of the doctoral program (doctoral curriculum) ...Go to the "Doctoral Study Plan" form.

The dissertation topic should be assigned no later than after the first semester of the "doctoral program."

2. Application for Admission to the Doctoral Program

When the time comes (after the dissertation has been completed), the completed dissertation and all other required documents must be submitted to the Dean’s Office, in consultation with the primary advisor, for the initiation of the doctoral proceedings. The Faculty Council will decide on the initiation of the doctoral proceedings at its next meeting (meeting dates) or via a written procedure. To ensure the doctoral proceedings are initiated at a Faculty Council meeting, please submit the documents to the Dean’s Office well in advance, i.e., no later than 2 weeks before the meeting.
